Sealink Travel have released their Summer 2014/15 timetable and are now taking bookings for the Auckland to Great Barrier Island ‘Fast Ferry Service’. This option proved very popular with visitors and locals travelling between downtown Auckland and Great Barrier Island last summer.
Two return trips on Labour Weekend (25th & 27th October) kick off the Summer itinerary this year followed by nine visits during the Xmas/New Year period between 20th December and 4th January. The standard Summer timetable takes over then with regular Saturday & Sunday runs right through from 10th January to 27th April 2015.
Of course there will be good coverage for those long summer holiday weekends like Auckland Anniversary, Waitangi, Easter and Anzac.
Adults one-way fares are $90 this year while child (5 – 15 years) fares will be $65 each way. Passengers are allowed 1 piece of luggage (up to 25kg) and 1 small carry on bag. No extra luggage will be allowed – nor surfboards or dogs.
Although weather dependant Sealink expects the crossing times to be under 2 hours and they remind travellers to bring their own refreshments as there is no café facility on-board.
This service offers a whole new travel experience for visitors to Great Barrier Island. Particularly those who find the regular ferry’s 4.5 hour crossing a little daunting. With the Fast Ferry’s regular visits, travellers can now easily enjoy the contrast of flying one way and boating the other….
