"Who am I and what do I do? Good question. My name is Sven Stellin and my family and I own a property on Great Barrier Island comprising around 500 hectares. It is a peninsular situated down the southern end of Port FitzRoy harbour. The property was farmed for over 100 years but today this is no longer a viable business. I am now involved in the extraction of kanuka and manuka essential oils that are the raw ingredients which produce high value, low volume exportable products."

Sven

Yep - that's our Sven. He's world famous on Great Barrier Island and just like the great  products he produces, he's Barrier Gold. He's a real McCoy, true blue, straight up & down, genuine Barrierite and he's also one of the most charmingly humorous characters you could meet. Meeting him though is no easy task. Unless you just happen to be at the Port Fitzroy store/post office when Sven has boated across the harbour from his idyllic hideaway to collect his mail or top up on supplies.
Svens property is accessible only by sea and boasts more coastline, 27 miles in fact, than any other privately owned lot on the island, and this is where you're most likely to find him.
You'll discover his fairly robust jetty across the Fitzroy harbour, nestled between Smokehouse Bay and the Wairahi valley.

Sven is happy to provide visitors with a fascinating free tour of his distillery and his partner Trish is equally as happy to manage the small onsite shop where visitors can explore the wide range of products available.
Go Great Barrier Island Private Day Tours often include a visit to this special part of Port Fitzroy in our tour and coastal cruise itineraries. It's always great to catch up with Sven & Trish and experience their unique brand of Barrier Gold.
