Saltwater Studios, Tryphena, Great Barrier Island

Located on a 13-acre estate with mature olive trees, native bush, and open farmland, Saltwater Studios is the perfect place to experience all that Great Barrier Island has to offer. If relaxation and adventure are what you’re after, at our place you’ll be completely secluded and surrounded by nature, yet close enough to local attractions and activities.

There are three private studios on the property. They are spacious and comfortable, with a Queen-sized bed, a cozy seating area, and tea and coffee-making facilities. A fridge is provided for your convenience, and the room is equipped with basic cooking essentials, including utensils, cutlery, a single burner hob; and access to two large BBQs available for guests to use. The studios are furnished in a simple, relaxed style, and open onto a private courtyard for quiet mornings, and each studio has a private sea view balcony where you can enjoy stunning sunsets.

For adventurous travellers, Great Barrier Island is a haven for outdoor activities. Some of New Zealand’s best fishing, surfing, diving, and hiking can be found just a short drive from the property. Explore scenic trails, dive into crystal-clear waters, or try your hand at fishing in the rich waters of the Hauraki Gulf. There’s no shortage of things to do for those seeking an active holiday, but if you prefer a more laid-back experience, the island also offers beautiful beaches, quiet spots for picnicking, and a slower pace of life.

Please note that the driveway leading to the estate requires a 4wd vehicle. The journey adds to the sense of adventure, with the driveway meandering through native bush and crossing over a stream before rising up the hillside to the privacy of the estate.
