IslandStay
IslandStay is a family owned and run accommodation facility in the Okiwi Valley/Whangapoua Basin, NE Great Barrier Island. They are centrally located in the north, on the east of the divide, close to the ocean beach and tidal estuary, near popular mountain and coastal trails yet easily accessible from the main bus route and not far from the Okiwi Airstrip.
They offer accommodation in two separate self-contained structures for up to 18 people. IslandStay is privately situated on an 11 acre site close by the meandering Okiwi Stream and old growth native trees.
Kakariki House has three bedrooms and can sleep 8 singles. Two of the rooms can convert to King-size Double beds. The solar sourced power supply is available 24 hours per day; cooking and continuous water heating is by LPG gas. We supply bed linen, cotton duvets, bath towels, tea towels etc. A washing machine and telephone are available at the lodge (100 metres away). TV and FM radio (iPod connectable) are supplied. The large fridge/freezer has a freezer space of 420mm wide by 320 deep by 180 high.
Pateke Lodge is larger overall with a more communal sleeping arrangement. It can accommodate 9 singles, but has two double alcoves in the 5 bed sleeping space. The other separate bedroom has a King-size bed. The large, open plan, kitchen, lounge and covered deck area provides ample space for communal gathering and eating. Power supply is continuously available without generator noise or inconvenient 'outage' and is of the same quality as Kakariki House.
